Our New CNC Turning Services with Premium Workholding

As we scale, adding top-of-the-line equipment to our precision CNC machine shop is an unending priority here at Summit CNC.

Demand is increasing for CNC turning services, and many of the parts we manufacture have features that require milling and Y-axis capabilities. To meet this demand, we’ve enhanced our shop floor with the Lynx 2100 LSYB turning center from DN Solutions.

Read on to learn more about this powerful machine and how we leverage it to your benefit!

Lynx 2100 LSYB Horizontal CNC Turning Center

This 9,260-pound horizontal CNC turning center delivers massive productivity while occupying minimal shop space. DN Solutions added Y-axis functionality to this 2100 series machine, creating new cutting possibilities for a vast range of parts and materials.

The Y-axis enables easy drilling, grooving, and radial cuts on a bar’s outer diameter along with drilling, surface milling, and radial cuts on a bar’s end surface or face.

This workhorse machine is loaded with all the premium features necessary to achieve tight tolerance parts for a range of applications:

  • Maximum turning diameter: 11.8”

  • Maximum turning length: 20”

  • Bar capacity: 2.6”

Sub-spindle

This Lynx turning center comes equipped with a 6,000 RPM sub-spindle, ideal for quick and accurate medium to high-volume part productions requiring two operations. Although our primary focus revolves around prototype and low-volume production parts, the built-in, 7.3 horsepower sub-spindle gives us the ability to help our customers scale to higher part volumes when needed.

Workholding

Because accuracy, precision, and efficiency are paramount to many of the jobs we take on, we outfitted our new CNC turning center with the best workholding solution money can buy: the Schunk ROTA THW3. This easy-to-maintain quick-change chuck system enables impressively tight tolerances with ease.

Like all Schunk workholding systems, the ROTA THW3 maintains remarkably consistent clamping pressures and a high level of repeatability from part to part. In other words, over the course of a part run, your parts are clamped the exact same way, every time.

Additionally, Schunk’s chuck has an exceptionally rigid base, ensuring optimal precision performance for tight tolerances while maintaining maximum clamping force over a long lifespan.

Furthermore, the Schunk’s quick-change jaw system drastically reduces setup times, allowing us to change jaws in less than 60 seconds! Faster setups mean shorter lead times and lower part costs for our customers, especially for one-off and low-quantity part orders.

There are many less expensive workholding systems that work well enough for a limited period of time, but they don't provide the same quality, rigidity, efficiency, and longevity as this Schunk system.
